About Us & Why We’re Different

We do things differently.

Most pool builders subcontract everything and add on a 35-45% margin on top of what their trades charge them. Subs For Pools dictates all of the pricing on these pools because we ARE the subcontractors that build your pool.

When you work with Subs For Pools:

Hands-On Labor, Vetted By Us

No upselling. You control your own budget. Our platform shows options with clear pricing, so you can build a pool that fits your lifestyle, your yard, and your budget.

A Simpler, Smarter Path to a Custom Pool

  • Browse pool types and sizes
  • Add features and equipment
  • See your total price at every step
  • Save your build and see a full list of the features and options that you included in your design with what is and is not included

We believe this is how pools should be built. No confusion. No markup games. No wasted time.

Meet the Owner: Scott Waldo

Scott Waldo’s career in the pool industry spans decades—and it started early. At just 13 years old, he began working in pool construction, and by 17, he was already selling pools. From there, his experience expanded across nearly every corner of the industry, including wholesale distribution, international construction projects in Nigeria, and leadership roles with a Florida-based company before returning to Texas to help open new locations.

By 1998, Scott was ready to build something of his own. He launched his own company, which quickly grew into one of the most recognizable names in the industry. His perspective has always gone beyond just building pools. As he puts it, “Once the chlorine gets in your blood, it’s hard to get it out.” But more importantly, Scott believes the industry needs stronger business leaders—not just builders, technicians, or retailers. His focus has always been on improving both the quality of products and the quality of the businesses behind them.

Scott credits much of his business acumen to his wide-ranging experience and his involvement with Vistage International, an executive coaching organization. During his time working in Nigeria, he collaborated on government projects and built relationships with high-level leaders, including airline owners, governors, and founders of international charities—experiences that helped shape his approach to leadership and business.

His industry involvement is extensive. Scott has served as:

Past Board Member and former President of NSPI

Past Board Member of APSP

Past President of the Texas Pool and Spa Coalition

Past Board Member of the Better Business Bureau

More Than Business, Built on Giving Back

Beyond business, Scott has dedicated a significant part of his life to giving back. His foundation, Smiles & Dreams, was created to help young people from troubled backgrounds build brighter futures. What started as volunteering at a local youth shelter—treating kids to dinners and shopping trips—grew into a much larger mission.

Recognizing a deeper need, Scott built a home that houses up to 28 young adults who have aged out of the foster care system. Residents can stay as long as they are working or attending school and remain drug-free. To support the program, annual golf tournaments raise between $85,000 and $100,000, which Scott personally matches.

Over the years, he has helped more than 400 young people. Many of those relationships continue today—including one young woman he proudly walked down the aisle on her wedding day.

“It’s humbling because it brings you back to reality… there’s always an opportunity to give back and pay it forward. We can get these kids to keep dreaming towards something better than what they had.”

- Scott Waldo

Scott’s passion for helping others extends even further. Splitting time in Puerto Rico, he rescues abandoned dogs and helps place them in no-kill shelters across the U.S. His long-term vision is to combine his philanthropic efforts—creating a program where young people without families help care for dogs without homes.

For Scott Waldo, success has never been just about business. It’s about building better companies, stronger communities, and opportunities for others to thrive.
